Sector Assessments

In 1995, the Sustainability Division reviewed available Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) data to determine which manufacturing industry sectors in Georgia were the largest generators of high-priority waste (considering both quantities and toxicity of the waste).

High-priority sectors identified as a result of this preliminary analysis were then further studied to determine specific pollution prevention opportunities and impediments. Each study, or sector assessment, consisted of some type of industry survey, a literature review, a geographic analysis, an extensive analysis of waste generating processes and amounts, and plant visits.

The assessment documents below each include a profile of the industry in Georgia, a description of waste-generating processes, pollution prevention methods applicable to the industry, and impediments to pollution prevention adoption.
